Lead Thou Me

When the day of life is brightest,
Love the fondest, and hope most free,
And the steps of time are lightest,
O my Father, lead Thou me.

When the night of life is darkest,
And my soul shall tempted be;
When to sorrow's voice I listen,
O my Father, lead Thou me.

Be life's pathway smooth or stony,
Let my faith still cling to Thee;
Be life's future bright or stormy,
O my Father, lead Thou me.

Psalms 23:2
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
Psalms 23:3
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me
in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Oh dear pilgrim are you troubled,
By the darkness of the way?
Do your sorrows and your burdens,
Fill you heart with dark dismay?
Do your toils and your tears and troubles,
Grieve your heart from day to day?
Does you soul in meditation,
Often long fly away?

Then, Oh listen to your Savior,
As He kindly sweetly calls,
"Come to Me ye heavy laden,
I will take your burdens all
Come and take my yoke upon you,
Learn of me from day to day,
List to my loving counsel,
I will help you all the way."

On the road from earth to glory,
Many pitfalls to abide,
Satan often darkens counsel,
And the pitfalls often hide,
" I will lead you on your journey
In your travels here below,
I will guide your feeble footsteps,
Thru this vale of sin and woe"

Thus the Savior gives His counsel,
To His children here on earth,
For He loves each one so dearly,
That for them He gave His life.
Then, Oh then we all should listen,
To His words so kind and true,
Walk with Him and seek His presence,
Day by day the journey thru.

Some sweet day we hope to see Him,
In that home above the sky.
Wholly be His race and favor,
We shall see Him by and by.
Then let's listen to His counsel,
For He too has passed this way,
And soon return from heaven,
to take us home to stay.

Father, I Stretch My Hands To Thee

Father, I stretch my hands to Thee;
No other help I know,
If Thou withdraw Thy self from me,
Ah! whither shall I go?

What did Thine only Son endure,
Before I drew my breath?
What pain, what labor to secure
My soul from endless death!

O Jesus, could I this believe,
I now should feel The power,
And all my wants Thou would'st
relieve In this accepted hour.

Author of faith to Thee
I lift my weary, longing eyes,
O let me now receive that gift,
My soul without it dies.

How would my fainting soul rejoice,
Could I but see Thy face,
Now let me hear Thy quick'ning voice,
And taste Thy pard'ning grace.

Abide With Me

Abide with me; fast falls the even tide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide;
When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me!

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim, Its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changes not, abide with me!

I need They presence every passing hour;
What but Thy grace can foil the tempers power?
Who like Thyself my guide and stay can be?
Thru cloud and sunshine, O abide with me!

Hold Thou Thy word before my closing eyes;
Shine thru the gloom, and point me to the skies;
Heav'ns morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me!

Twas With An Everlasting Love

Twas with an ever lasting love
That God His own elect embraced,
Before He made the worlds above,
Or earth on her huge columns placed.

Long ere the sun's refulgent ray
Primeval shades of darkness drove,
They on His sacred bosom lay,
Loved with an everlasting love.

Then, in His love and His decrees,
Christ and His bride appeared as one;
Her sin, by imputation, His,
While She in spotless splendor shone.

O love! how high thy glory swell!
How great, immutable and free;
Ten thousand sins as black as hell,
Are swallowed up, O love by, thee.

Believer, here thy comfort stands
From first to last salvation's free;
And everlasting love demands,
An everlasting song from thee.

The Bride Of Christ

The Church of Christ we have today,
A blessing from the Lord;
He gave Her to His son to save,
And take Her home above.

She was His Bride before she knew,
She had a Husband dear;
And when for Her His choice was made,
It caused her to draw near.

When she adorned with all His Grace,
Shall be exalted there,
No queen with all her glory here,
Was ever half so fair.

The turtle dove is singing now;
The winter's past and gone;
Rise up my fair one, come away!
I'll take you home to stay.

I know Whom I Have Believed

I know not why God's wondrous grace
To me He hath make known,
Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love,
Redeemed me for His own.

I know not how this saving faith
To me He did impart,
Nor how believing in His word
Wrought peace within my heart.

I know not how the Spirit moves
Convincing men of sin,
Revealing Jesus thru the word,
Creating faith in Him.

I know not what of good or ill
May be reserved for me,
Of weary ways of golden days,
Before His face I see.

I now not when my Lord may come,
At night of noonday fair,
Nor if I'll walk the vale with Him,
Or meet Him in the air.

But "I know whom I have believed,
and am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I've committed
Unto him against that day."

So Let Our Lips And Lives Express

So let our lips and lives express
The holy gospel we profess;
So let our work and virtues shine,
To prove the doctrine all divine.

Thus shall we best proclaim abroad
The honors of our God;
When the salvation reigns within,
And grace subdues the pow'r of sin.

Our flesh and sense must be denied,
Passion and envy, lust and pride;
When justice, temp'rance, truth and love,
Our inward piety approve.

Religion bears our spirits up,
While we expect that blessed hope,
The right appearance of the Lord,
And faith stands leaning on His word.

Our Faith

When the Lord bids us walk in the valley of woe,
We would falter and fall by the way;
Were it not for our faith ever strong to press on,
Till we get to the brightness of the day.

If the pathway be rough as we journey along,
Then our faith makes us look far ahead
For the light that e'er shines on a road that is smooth,
Where our footsteps forever may tread.

Now our faith is an anchor to which we may cling,
All secure till the tempest is done
Walk by faith and not by sight in obedience to God,
for 'tis thus that our vict'ry is won

Savior I Come

Savior, I come to Thee, On Thee I call,
Thou art my hope and plea, Jesus, my all;
Thou, Lord, my refuge art, Comfort me, Heal me,
Heal Thou my aching heart, Thine would I be.

Savior, I come to Thee, Give me, I pray,
Thou Thy great love so free, Strength for each day;
Thou knowest all my care, Jesus, my King,
Knowest the grief I bear, To Thee I cling.

Savior, I come to Thee, Be Thou my Light,
Upward my footsteps lead out of the night;
Into the heav'nly day, Bright with Thy love,
lead me, O Lord, I pray, Home-ward above.

Christian Fellowship

Blest are the sons of peace,
Whose hearts and hopes are one;
Whose kind designs to serve and please
Through all their actions run.

Blest is the pious house,
Where zeal and friendship meet;
Their songs of praise, their mingled vows,
Make their communion sweet.

Thus on the heavenly hills,
The saints are blest above;
Where joy like morning dew distills,
And all the air is love.
