Christ Satisfies

Whene'er you need a friend, Who is all wise, On whom you can depend, He satisfies, Christ satisfies the soul, When He has full control; On Him your burdens roll, Christ satisfies.

When darkness hovers near, And torrents rise, Christ comes the soul to cheer, He satisfies, Christ satisfies the soul, When He has full control; On Him your burdens roll, Christ satisfies.

Nothing of earth is sure, Vain hope soon dies, Things of the Lord endure, He satisfies, Christ satisfies the soul, When He has full control; On Him your burdens roll, Christ satisfies.

My Lord, I Did Not Choose You

My Lord, I did not choose You, For that could never be;
My heart would still refuse You, Had You not chosen me.
You took the sin that stained me, You cleansed me, made me new;
Of old You have ordained me, That I should live in You.

Unless Your grace had called me And taught my opening mind,
The world would have enthralled me; To heav'nly glories blind.
My heart knows none above You, For Your rich grace I thirst;
I know that if I love You, You must have loved me first.

Your love has been forever, From all eternity;
Its drawing power never Shall be withdrawn from me;
I feel that I am kept by The strength of love divine,
And when I wake in Heaven, All glory shall be Thine.

Others

Lord, help me live from day to day In such a self forgetful way
That even when I Kneel to pray My prayer shall be for others.
Others, Lord yes, others, Let this my motto be,
Help me to live for others, That I may live like Thee.

Help me in all the work I do To ever be sincere and true
And know that all I'd do for you Must needs be done for others.
Others, Lord yes, others, Let this my motto be,
Help me to live for others, That I may live like Thee.

Let "Self" be crucified and slain And buried deep: and all in vain
May efforts be to rise again, Unless to live for others.
Others, Lord yes, others, Let this my motto be,
Help me to live for others, That I may live like Thee.

And when my work on earth is done, And my new work in Heav'n's begun,
I will forget the crowns I've won, And praise my Lord with others.
Others, Lord yes, others, Let this my motto be,
Help me to live for others, That I may live like Thee.

Holy Ghost, With Light Divine

Holy Ghost, with light divine, Shine upon this heart of mine;
Chase the shades of night away, Turn my darkness into day.

Holy Ghost, with pow'r divine, Cleanse this guilty heart of mine;
Long hath sin without control, Held dominion o'er my soul.

Holy Ghost, with joy divine, Cheer this saddened heart of mine;
Bid my many woes depart, Heal my wounded bleeding heart.

Holy Spirit, all divine, Dwell within this heart of mine;
Cast down ev 'ry idol throne, Reign supreme and reign alone.

Nearer To Thee

Nearer to Thee, Lord, draw me today;
Nearer to Thee each step of the way.

Thou art my Savior, so I would be
Daily and hourly nearer to Thee.

Nearer to Thee, Lord, never to roam;
Nearer to Thee, Lord, all the way home.

Oft I am troubled, tempted and tried.
Draw me dear Jesus, close to Thy side.

Tho Thou has saved me dangers abound,
Pitfalls are near me, foes are around.

Close to abide, Lord, hold fast my hand,
Till I have crossed this dangerous land.

Nearer to Thee, Lord, never to roam;
Nearer to Thee, Lord, all the way home.

Oft I am troubled, tempted and tried.
Draw me dear Jesus, close to Thy side.

Yonder where angles sing near Thy throne,
I shall be ever wholly Thine own,

Free from temptations there I shall be,
Drawn by Thy love, Lord, closely to Thee.

Nearer to Thee, Lord, never to roam;
Nearer to Thee, Lord, all the way home.

Oft I am troubled, tempted and tried.
Draw me dear Jesus, close to Thy side.

Lord, I Believe

Lord, I believe; thy pow'r I own, Thy word I would obey;
I wander, comfortless and lone, When from Thy truth I stray.

Lord, I believe; but gloomy fears Sometimes bedim my sight;
I look to Thee with pray'rs and tears, And cry for strength and light.

Lord, I believe; but oft, I know My faith is cold and weak;
My weakness strengthen, and bestow The confidence I seek.

Yes, I believe; and only Thou Canst give my soul relief;
Lord, to Thy truth my spirit bow; "Help Thou my unbelief!"

The Lily Of The Valley

I have found a friend in Jesus, He's everything to me,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul;

The Lily of the Valley, in Him alone I see All
I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.

In sorrow He's me comfort, in trouble He's my stay,
He tells me every care on him to roll;

He's the Lily of the Valley, The Bright and Morning Star,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

He all my griefs has taken, and all my sorrows borne,
In temptation He's my strong and mighty tow'r;

I have all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn
From my heart, and now He keeps me by His pow'r.

Tho all the world forsake me, and Satan tempt sore,
Thru Jesus I shall safely reach my goal;

He's the Lily of the Valley, The Bright and Morning Star,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

He will never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here;
While I live by faith and do His blessed will;

A wall of fire about me, I've nothing now to fear,
With His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.

Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessed face,
Where rivers of delight shall ever roll;

He's the Lily of the Valley, The Bright and Morning Star,
He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

Come, All Ye Chosen Saints Of God

Come, all ye chosen saints of God,
Whose souls are washed in Jesus' blood,

Hear what He says, His word is true,
My grace sufficient is for you;

I am your sure all mighty friend,
Who loving loves you to the end;

I will be near you, and will show,
My grace sufficient is for you.

I know how num'rous are your foes;
I know the ways which they oppose,

I know their cunning malice too,
My grace sufficient is for you;

Tho Satan tries your souls to ensnare,
You're still the objects of My care;

You're near my heart, I'll bring you thru,
My grace sufficient is for you.

Do you want to proof of this my love?
Calvary survey, then heaven above,

See how the ransomed millions do,
My grace sufficient is for you;

I'll guide you safely in the way,
Thru life's dark night to heav'n's bright day;

And there with wonder you shall view,
My grace sufficient is for you.

Lift Me Up Above The Shadows

Lift me up above the shadows, Plant my feet on higher ground,
Lift me up above the clouds, Lord, Where the pure sunshine is found;
Lift me up above my weakness, Lift me up into Thy strength,
Lift me up above the shadows, Till I stand with Thee at length.

Lift me up above the shadows, For the storms are raging high,
Lift me up, my blessed savior, Let to Thy bosom fly;
There no evil thing can touch me, Over on the shining side,
Lift me up above the shadows, Let me ever more abide.

Lift me up above the shadows, Out of sorrow into joy;
Lift me up above my grief, Lord, Give me gold for my alloy;
Then when death must claim my spirit, And the storms of life are past,
Lift me up above the shadows, Till in Heav'n I stand at last.

Lift me up above the shadows, Lift me up and let me stand
On the mountain tops of glory, Let me dwell in Beulah Land.

The Rock That Is Higher Than I

O sometimes the shadows are deep, And rough seems the path to the goal,
And sorrows, sometimes how they sweep Like tempests down over the soul!

O sometimes how long seems the day, And sometimes how weary my feet;
But toiling in life's dusty way, The rock's blessed shadow, how sweet!

O near to the Rock let me keep, if blessings or sorrows prevail;
Or climbing the mountain way steep, Or walking the shadowy vale.

O then to the Rock let fly, To the Rock that is higher than I;
O then to the Rock let fly, To the Rock that is higher than I!

Stand By Me

When the storms of life are raging, Stand by me;
When the world is tossing me like a ship upon the sea,
Thou who rulest wind and water, Stand by me.

In the mist of tribulations, Stand by me;
When the host of hell assail, And my strength begins to fail,
Thou how never lost a battle, Stand by me.

In the midst of faults and failures, Stand by me;
When I do the best I can, And my friends misunderstand,
Thou who knowest all about me, Stand by me.

In the midst of persecution, Stand by me;
When my foes in battle array Undertake to stop my way,
Thou who saved Paul and Silas, Stand by me.

When I'm growing old and feeble, Stand by me;
When my life becomes a burden, And I'm nearing chilly Jordan,
O Thou "Lily of the Valley," Stand by me.

I Love Jesus

When the world my heart is rending, With its heaviest storm of care,
My glad tho'ts to God ascending, find a refuge from despair,
I love Jesus! Hallelujah! I love Jesus, yes I do, I love Jesus;
He my savior; Jesus smiles and loves me too.

There's a hand of mercy near me, Tho the wares of trouble roar,
There's an hour of rest to cheer me, When the toils of life are o'er,
I love Jesus! Hallelujah! I love Jesus, yes I do, I love Jesus;
He my savior; Jesus smiles and loves me too.

O to rest in peace forever, Joined with happy souls above,
Where no foe my heart can sever From the Savior whom I love,
I love Jesus! Hallelujah! I love Jesus, yes I do, I love Jesus;
He my savior; Jesus smiles and loves me too.

This the hope that shall sustain me, Till life's pilgrimage is past.
Tears my vex and trouble pain me; I shall reach my home at last.
I love Jesus! Hallelujah! I love Jesus, yes I do, I love Jesus;
He my savior; Jesus smiles and loves me too.

In Ev'ry Trying Hour

In ev'ry trying hour, My soul to Jesus flies;
I trust in His almighty pow'r, When swelling billows rise.

His comforts bear me up; I trust a faithful God;
The sure foundation of my hope Is in my Savior's blood.

Loud hallelujahs sing To our Redeemer's name;
In joy or sorrow, life or death, His love is still the same.

Whom Do You Serve?

Can your god walk on water?
Can your god raise the dead?

Does he love you so much
That his blood he was willing to shed?

Whom do you serve today?
Who is the lord of your life?

Do you live in darkness,
Or do you live in the light?

Thus Far The Lord Has Lead Me On

Thus far the Lord has led me on; Thus far His power prolongs my days;
And every evening shall make known Some fresh memorials of His grace.

Much of my time has run to waste, And I perhaps am near my home;
But He forgives my follies past; He gives me strength for days to come.

In vain the sons of earth or hell Tell me a thousand frightful things;
My God in safety make me dwell beneath the shadow of His wings.

I lay my body down to sleep; Peace is the pillow for my head;
While well appointed angels keep Their watchful stations round my bed.

O Thou In Whose Presence

O Thou, in whose presence my soul takes delight,
On whom in afflictions I call;
My comfort by day, and my song in the night,
My hope, My salvation, my all;
Where dost Thou at noontide resort with Thy sheep,
To feed on pastures of love?
Say why in this valley of death should I weep Or alone in the wilderness rove?

Jesus Is A Friend

Troubles hear below often bring us woe, Jesus is a friend always;
Seek His gracious love, pray to Him above, Jesus is a friend always.

As the minutes fly, as the years go by, Jesus is a friend always;
Loved ones there abide on the other side, Jesus is a friend always.

When the trumpet sounds, and we all arise, Jesus is a friend always;
Then on wings we'll fly to that world on high, Jesus is a friend always.

Jesus is a friend always, Jesus is friend always;
He will be with you, trust in Him anew,
Jesus is a friend always.

Prayer For Faith

Oh, for a faith that will not fail, When storms clouds gather round;
When Satan threatens to prevail, And friends cannot be found.

Lord, give me faith, anointing grace, That when the test shall come,
I may not falter in this race, While on my journey home.

Oh, for a faith that will abide, The dark and cloudy day,
When friends unite with foes to ride, And with them turn away.

Give me this faith, dear Lord, I pray, While on the battle line,
That I may never from Thee stray, Nor let my zeal decline.

Behold Us, Lord

Behold us, Lord, a little space, From daily tasks set free,
And met within Thy holy place To rest awhile with Thee.

Around us rolls the ceaseless tide Of business, toil and care,
And scarcely can we turn aside For one brief hour of prayer.

Yet these are not the only walls, Wherein Thou mayst be sought:
On homeliest work Thy blessing falls, In truth and patience wrought.

Thine is the loom, the forge, the mart, The wealth of land and sea;
The worlds of science and of art, Revealed and ruled by Thee.

The writer of this song seems to have felt the press of time just as we do today. The amazing things is that the writer John Ellerton, lived from 1826 - 1893. It seems odd to me that we often think of past times as slower times.

The Strangers' Prayer

Hear our trembling cry, we pray, Thou art our compassionate Friend;
Thou hast known and felt our sigh, Let us feel They Spirit nigh.

Bear with us despite our sin, We are creatures so unclean;
Reward us not for what we've done, Grant us mercies for Thy Son.

Lord, we would Thy word obey, And each day more like Thee live;
Yet so short of Thy glory fall, Are we sons of Thine at all?

Lord, we long with Thee to live, In that better land beyond;
There we'll dwell among the blest, Home at last, forever rest.
