Psalms 40:17

Psalms 40:17 - But I [am] poor and needy; [yet] the Lord thinketh upon me: thou [art] my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

Proverbs 5:21 - For the ways of man [are] before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

Proverbs 21:2 - Every way of a man [is] right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

Proverbs 24:12 - If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider [it]? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth [not] he know [it]? and shall [not] he render to [every] man according to his works?

How many of us this morning think of ourselves as poor and needy? We live in a land of plenty. Most of us have our wants but few of us are in great need. How often do we think of ourselves as being under the watchful eye of God? David, who was king said that he was, "poor and needy" but his Lord thought upon him.

These scriptures tell me that the Lord has considered us and knows us and that He understands our condition. The frightening part is that He renders "to every man according to his works". I know me, I know my works, and I know my thoughts and I am ashamed to know that my Lord knows all of them also.

I know also that I am poor and that I am needy. I wish that I could make myself clean before an all seeing God. But I find that in my best moments I am in need of help and that I am without strength and wisdom needed to do that which my heart desires most. And that is to serve my Lord with an unwavering love. But I waver so often that I am amazed that He still considers me in His mercy.

I am thankful that my works and the riches of this world are not what is required to make me righteous before my God. Our strength, Our salvation, Our righteousness is of God. The best I can ever hope is a few times a day to do some small thing that reveals His light in me. My prayer this morning is that I can little by little learn to live in such a way that His light shines a little more often and a little brighter in my life.

Amen

Psalms 119:105

Psalms 119:105 - Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Dear Lord as we live in this world we need light, understanding, to maneuver around the obstacles that are found in the path that we walk. Just as our feet stumble over a stone our minds stumble over the troubles of the day. And just as a child needs to be picked up and reassured when they fall we need thee, O Lord, to reassure and guide us in our path.

Help us to remember that your word is our lamp our counsel. Your word, O Lord, is a well that we can go to for refreshment when we are weary of life. So many times we forget that light, understanding, comes from thee. Not only our understanding but also the understanding of those around us. It is thee O Lord, and thee alone who is able to change the heart of men. Help us to remember to come to thee when the words and actions of those around us offend us.

It is thee O Lord, that can see around the corners of life and guide our feet in the path that is lit by thy word. When life places an obstacle in our path thy word is the place for us to go for help to see the way to handle the situation. Bless us to remember to come to thee first.

So often I come to thee after I have worn myself down trying to solve a problem myself. Thy word teaches us to bring our troubles to Thee. Not just the big ones and not after we have tried and failed, just simply to bring our troubles to thee.

Help us O Lord, to remember that thy word is our lamp.

Amen

Psalms 5:2

Psalms 5:2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

Most holy and righteous Lord, I beg thee to hear me and bless me this morning as I begin this day. Help me O Lord, to focus my thoughts on thee. Give me strength to let the worries of this life slip away. Help me O Lord to focus upon thy goodness and thy mercy.

Bless O Lord, those who are sick and in need of healing. Strengthen their bodies as thou see they have need. Grant strength and wisdom to those who give care to the sick, bless them O Lord to give much needed comfort and aid.

As thy children begin to gather for worship bless each one with a ready mind that they might receive a blessing from thee. Many times O Lord we forget to empty out minds and do those things that we can do to prepare our selves for thy service. Help us this day to ready ourselves for thy service.

Bless I beg Thee, thy ministers this day as they stand before thy people. For they are thine and need to hear of thee and thy strength, wisdom, and mercy. Bless thy ministers to teach that, thou art God and besides thee there is none else. How can we live O Lord except thou bless.

When thou hast blessed all the rest if there is a small blessing left would thou O God, remember this unworthy servant.

Amen

My Grace

2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

I find it interesting to note that the word "weakness" and the word "infirmities" comes from the same Greek word. Paul is referring the various problems and situations that life brought him as he lived in service to God. Paul had done as we often do, he had asked that his problems simply be removed. And Christ's response to his request was my power and strength are made manifest in those things that are too big for you. The same thought is expressed in the phrases like, "stand still and see the salvation of the Lord" and "wait upon the Lord". The Lord is able when we are weak.

We begin today knowing that many of the worries of yesterday are still here. We also know that most likely there will be new worries added by the end of the day. Paul said he, "gloried" in his infirmities. He knew that when things got heavy, when the opposition was greater than his abilities he was going to see a manifestation of God's grace. As I write this I believe in my heart that Paul would rather have been free and not in chains. That he did not wish to be beaten and that there were times that he longed for some comfort to ease his suffering. But he willingly suffered those things because they were his calling. Therefore he gloried in them because with them often came much opportunity for him to further the cause of Christ.

My prayer this morning is that as we face our "weakness" our "infirmities" our troubles, we can remember that the same grace that was sufficient for Paul is sufficient for us. Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Amen

With God All Things Are Possible

Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld [them], and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

We believe in a God that is powerful beyond our ability to comprehend. Everything and everyone that we have knowledge of is limited in ability. When our God speaks it is done. I know that is hard to comprehend but just think about it for a moment, God speaks and it is done.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. God spoke and it happened.

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. God spoke and it happened.

And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry [land] appear: and it was so. God spoke and it happened.

And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, [and] the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed [is] in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. God spoke and it happened.

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: God spoke and it happened.

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl [that] may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. God spoke and it happened.

And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. God spoke and it happened.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. God spoke and it happened.

I believe these verses of scripture every bit as much as if I believe the ones that tell me that God knows who his children are and what their situation in this life is. I am thankful this morning to know that my God not only has all power but is willing to use it.

My prayer this morning is that this God who knoweth all things and with whom all things are possible will watch over me and keep it in all the ways that he sees that I need.

Amen

Food For Sunday

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Most kind and heavenly father, I thank thee for the blessings of rest and for the blessings thou has given men in this life. Forgive me O, Lord for those times I fail to be thankful. Strengthen my weakness and bless me to be a fruitful servant.

Dear Lord, as we gather in thy name prepare our minds to receive blessings from thee. Guide us to fertile fields of thought and cause us to feed upon thy word.

Bless us O, Lord to keep our minds clean, that our thoughts may be centered upon thee and our duties before the true and living God.

Bless thy ministers with understanding and to teach thy people according to thy word. As they consider the thoughts in their mind guide them and give them understanding. If their thoughts are of thee bless them to keep them. If they are not of thee bless them to lay their thoughts aside and follow thy leadership.

Bless us all according to thy understanding of our need.

Take Time To Be Holy
William D. Longstaff, 1822-1894

Psalm 25:4 Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.

Take time to be holy, Speak oft with Thy Lord; Abide in Him Always, And feed on His Word, Make friends of God's children, Help those who are weak, Forgetting in nothing His blessings to seek.

Take time to be holy, The world rushes on; Spend much time in secret With Jesus alone. By looking to Jesus, Like him thou shalt be: Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy, Let him be thy guide, And run not before Him, Whatever betide. In joy or in sorrow Still follow the Lord, And looking to Jesus, Still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy, Be calm in thy soul; Each tho't and each motive Beneath his control. Thus led by His Spirit To fountains of love, Thou soon shalt be fitted For service above.

This Day

Psalms 5:3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct [my prayer] unto thee, and will look up.

Genesis 18:14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

My dearest Lord, what is there that I can ask of thee that is beyond thy ability. So often Lord even as I pray to thee I forget that thou art GOD. I forget that there is nothing that you have not seen and understood that there was nothing made without thee. How small my little complaints must seem to one who simply spoke all that is into existence. O Lord when I think of these things I swell up inside, my mind is not able to comprehend so great a God.

Lord help me to rise and face this day with thee foremost in my mind. Help me to put my troubles and worries behind me and to focus on the tasks this day will bring me. When a trouble seems to loom over me help me to remember that you are near and watching.

In times of conflict help me to remember to do those things you have blessed me to understand are just and right. Help me to treat others the way you expect me to and not the way that comes natural to one such as I.

I know I fail often in my endeavors to serve thee but you have been so good and gracious to forgive me and keep me all these years. I beg you to continue with me.

Dear Lord remember those who are sick and in need of those things that only you can provide. Bless the caregivers in this world with ability and strength to do what is needed of them. I also beg your blessings upon out nation, it's leaders, and those who keep us safe from those who would take our freedoms.

Amen

Give Us This Day

O, Lord God of heaven, I beg to bless us this day. Bless thy people Lord and keep them from sins. Bless us as we go through this day that may feel thee with us and receive blessings from thee.

Bless thy servants Lord to do as would be pleasing in thy sight. O, Lord thou knowest our thoughts, desires and fears, keep us in a place of refuge. Bless us to live in such a way that proclaims thy glory and thy grace. Lead us to the fields you would have us to walk in.

Thou knowest the doubts that come into minds of thy children. Lord, I beg thee to strengthen us in our hours of weakness. Protect us and keep us from all harm as we live through the woes of this life. Bless us O, Lord to do those things taught in thy word and to keep those things which would save us from the terrors of this life close to our hearts.

Bless us all Lord with a greater understanding of thee and our need of thee. I know in my own heart I can do nothing without thee. My best efforts to serve thee fail without thy blessings.

In thee O, Lord do I put my trust.

Amen

All My Times

Psalms 31:1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

Psalms 31:15 My times [are] in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

Dear lord, I thank thee this morning that you have blessed me to know thou art a God of trust. I thank thee for blessing me to understand that I can depend upon you to do as you deem right. So often I pray and ask for those things that I understand not. Many times my answers to my problems look good in the short term but they often turn into more problems in the long term. But thou O Lord, are able to see both the beginning and the end of every answer given. For this thy servant looks to you this day.

Grant me strength and energy to do all that falls my duty this day. As the day grinds on and my strength and faith in thee begins to weaken I beg thee O Lord to hold me up and to guide my thoughts and actions in such a way that my thoughts and actions even my very speech would please thee.

Dear Lord, you have blessed me to understand that my enemies are those people and things that would oppose my way as I endeavor to serve thee. Lord, I need thy strength every bit as much as the Israelites did. I beg that you would not only be near me in the battles with my enemies but to fight them for me. For Lord I do not suppose myself to have the strength to overcome even the smallest of my enemies alone.

When I fear or feel the urge to turn and flee remind me Lord that you are near. That through thee I can face and over the mightiest of foes. Calm my troubled heart when I am worried about those troubles that I have not yet faced. Bless me to remember that you have seen the solution when I have only seen the question. And bless me to remember that sometimes my job is simply to wait upon thee trusting in thee.

These things I pray,

Amen

Help

Psalms 46:1 God [is] our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Dear heavenly Father I know as I begin this day I will need thy strength and help to face the evils of this day. Thy word tells us to keep our focus upon thee but my weak mind strays into things that it should not. The end result is that I often end up in trouble.

I beg this morning that I could be ever mindful that you are my refuge. That you are my O Lord, and that you are my hiding place from the cares of this world. And that I am to go to you when I am afraid. That you O Lord, have all power and wisdom, not only in this world but in all the heavens also. Help me remember these things when I am cast down. When I begin to feel the weight of this life revive me and restore me to the confidence that is in thee.

Help me O Lord, to keep in mind that when I see the impossible, you spoke all that we know into existence. Help me to remember to call upon thee. And to wait upon thee and see the work of thy mighty hand. So often O Lord, I forget to call thy name first, before I get into trouble. Yet you have be so good to remember me even when I have forgotten you.

As we begin this day of worship help us to be mindful that it is you that we seek. Keep mindful that you know us and what we need. Strengthen us Lord, in the all the ways you see we have need. Help us to remember that because thou art a," very present help in trouble" when trouble comes thou O Lord art always near.

Keep Me

Psalms 37:23 The steps of a [good] man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

O, Lord, my keeper and my guide, I beg thee to help me and keep me that I would be able to please thee in my service today.

Thou knowest O, Lord, my concerns, and the intentions of my heart towards thy people. Bless thy servant that I would be able to help them and not hinder thy cause.

Bless me with strength that I would be able to be patient with thee but also that I would not hold back or be slack in my duty.

I know that thou knowest all things, that thou understandeth all things, that thou movest according to thy righteousness. Bless O, Lord, according to thy wisdom.

As I consider those who have asked for prayer bless me with a door of opportunity that I might do according to thus sayth the Lord. Bless those in need with a mind towards thee O, Lord. Strengthen them in the way. If thy servant has a part in thy will bless me to know it. Grant O, Lord that I might glorify thee.

Thou knowest O, Lord my fear of bringing reproach upon thee and thy people. Keep me from fulfilling my fear.

Bless me O, Lord, to wait upon thee and move upon thy command.

Amen.
