For Those Grieving

I'm praying GOD will bear you up ---
That HE'll bring you safely through
All the troubles now upon you;
And, be strength and guard for you.

I'm praying HE'll comfort and relieve you
In the way only HE knows best.
I pray HE let you know HE's with you,
That you feel HIS presence, manifest.

I pray HE give you peace and courage;
I ask that HE carry you safe along;
And, in HIS loving arms, enfold you.
I pray HE'll keep your spirit strong.

Now and ever in HIS keeping,
I pray you'll evermore be blessed;
That, you'll soon rise from your weeping
To enjoy peace on Jesus' breast.

By the mercies of GOD,

GOD Reaches All

Our sight is limited by distance;
Our arms have such short reach;
But, GOD our FATHER is boundless;
And, of HIM, we're blessed to beseech

Relief for loved ones who suffer,
Safekeeping for friends far away,
Blessings upon poor and needy;
That HE be their guide and stay;

For HIS churches in distant lands,
For HIS children, both here and there:
That HE will uphold and comfort all,
Imparting peace and joy to spare.

Hallelujah! Our GOD is almighty!
HE's more than able to fill our needs
And needs of loved ones far away ---
HE protects, upholds, and relieves.

How merciful is GOD of all power!
O what rest is found in HIS Love!
Praises to HIM WHO reaches all ---
Our FATHER in Heaven above!

By the mercies of GOD,

Praises to THEE

O True and Living GOD,
We praise Thy Name today;
For, THOU art so wonderful
To us along life's way.

O Holy Triune GOD,
Our hearts are filled with awe
Of THEE Who art all-wise,
WHO hast no kind of flaw.

Praises to THEE O GOD
So glorious and so kind,
For mercies of Thy Love
Upon all who are Thine.
Amen

By the mercies of GOD,

Where is Peace

No amount of wealth; no social standing;
No political clout; nor, citizenship here
Can ever void one's need for GOD.
That HE sustains us all is clear!

No healthy body, no rippling muscles,
No brilliant mind, no earned degrees,
Not a quick-witted sense of humor,
No fame, can give the spirit ease.

Where, then, can be peace for man?
Our peace is in none other than GOD---
Our FATHER, Creator, Sustainer, Savior,
Comforter, Holy Spirit --- the LORD!

By the mercies of GOD,

Power for Eagles

Have you been called to some duty
For which you feel ill-prepared?
Then study and pray; but, most of all,
Trust Almighty GOD with your care!

Think of the eagle's wondrous eye:
He spots his prey from great heights.
What if he required something visible
To bear him along in sailing flights?

What if he waited, untrusting, on ground,
Denying what he's been given within?
Then, we'd never see him soar, at rest,
On invisible power of his almighty Friend.

"Air currents", you say? "Just air currents!"
"That eagle just flies 'cause he's a bird!"
Well, have you wondered about his nature,
Where it came from, why he's not awkward?

Did the eagle just think to jump off a cliff?
Did he think to search rising air currents out?
Well, I believe he's uniquely programmed
To soar on air currents with no doubt.

Invisible power? It's no problem to eagles!
GOD's power bears them perfectly well!
O to so trust GOD WHO bears us through life,
To rest more in HIM WHO doth within us dwell!

Are we not given an eye of faith?
Then, why do we oft' fear the unknown?
Are we not kept by the same power of GOD,
The power by which eagles have flown?

By the mercies of GOD,

Keep Me LORD

While I'm on this pilgrim journey,
Though the way be rough and steep,
If the days be fair or stormy,
O dear LORD, my soul, please keep!

If my friends be gathered round me,
If I'm sad, weary --- alone,
In times of grief, in times of joy, LORD;
Guide me gently on toward Home.

Thy thoughts, LORD, I cannot fathom;
Nor, Thy great ways, understand;
But, THOU art GOD of almighty power:
I know my safety is in Thy hand.

Though the enemy be lurking,
Hoping, my life, to ensnare;
Guide and guard and shield me;
O please keep me in Thy care!

Ever, ever, be THOU with me:
Hours I'm awake, and when I sleep.
This, my prayer for every day, LORD:
My soul, by Thy power, keep!

By the mercies of GOD,

August Morn

Softly come the morning's graces;
The grasses glimmer with dew;
Through misty clouds, shines sunlight:
A lovely August morn to view!

This season's had plenteous rainfall,
Here, near the Appalachian trail.
Not much sign of Autumn coming:
The green of Summer holds up well.

Here and there, a few leaves change
To soft, subtly-touched, purpled wear.
I think it's sweetgums that I've seen,
With leaves hinting, "Fall is near".

Fast, fast away, time escapes us!
We cannot hold it, nor slow it down.
We'd as well try to capture the light
Of sunbeams touching on the ground.

As we're given our allotted time,
May we redeem it wisely each day,
Loving --- serving GOD and one another,
Sharing joy in Christ along life's way.

By the mercies of GOD,

Not Left Comfortless

O Holy Spirit Who comforts bereaved ones ---
GOD, unconfined to any time or space:
Praise for Thy presence, for sweet communion,
For letting us feel the smiles of Thy face!

Praises, Thy chosen --- all Thy redeemed ones,
Are mercifully kept by Thy power!
Praise, THOU art with us, when we're cast down;
Praises for relief in the dark, trying hour!

Praises O FATHER; Praises, dear Savior;
Praises to THEE, Holy Comforter --- GOD!
Praises, we're not left here comfortless---
Praises for bearing us up on life's road!

By the mercies of GOD,

What Stirs in Your Heart

In the forests, in the meadows,
Are seen works of GOD sublime;
As, on mountains, in the valleys,
In the seas, in sands so fine.

Look and listen; hear the winds blow;
See the seasons come and change.
Consider tall, magnificent trees
Upon a lovely mountain range.

What is it you can see and hear?
What is it stirs within your heart?
Does awe of GOD rise up in you?
Are you in wonder at His art;

And, at His most awesome power?
His works and ways, excelling all?
His wisdom you don't understand?
Does GOD, your heart, enthrall?

Then, remember to praise HIM.
Take time to thank HIM every day
For life, strength, and for knowledge
Of some of His works and ways.

By the mercies of GOD,

GOD the Highest

Meek and lowly, almighty, holy,
Omnipresent is our GOD:
HE is FATHER, Holy Spirit,
Christ - Redeemer --- Glorious LORD!

HE owns all wisdom and power:
GOD of mercy, WHO is LOVE;
GOD of Grace --- HE's HIGH above all;
GOD of Truth, reigning above!

None can measure nor compare to
HIS great works and glorious ways.
HE works and no man can hinder;
HE's giver of life and days!

Praise HIM for His wondrous mercies,
For His never-ending Love,
For Salvation and Redemption!
For all gifts, praise GOD above!

By the mercies of GOD,

Ever-Present LORD

Never a moment, LORD, but we need THEE!
We've no strength of selves to stand alone.
Always, always, THOU art with us,
Even when comfort has flown.

THOU art more than sufficient, LORD!
THOU art all we need this day;
For, in Thy fullness is everything.
THOU hast supply for life's way.

We thank THEE for Thy guiding hand.
We thank THEE for Thy loving care.
Thanks be to THEE for life and strength.
Praises, LORD, that THOU art here!

Considering Life

A quiet time for contemplation:
To think upon the scene of life,
To think about the ONE WHO gave it ---
That, to call one Home is HIS right;

To consider GOD's loving care;
That, when we fall, HE lifts us up;
That, HE's present when we languish,
When we must drink of death's cup.

It's not the end when a redeemed one
Passes away --- he's secure in GOD's Love!
His spirit but takes its flight to Heaven,
By the power of the FATHER above!

Blessed be the GOD of Life;
Blessed be His Holy Name!
Blessed be our Lord and Savior,
By Whom grace and mercy came!

By the mercies of GOD,

Naked No More

Naked before THEE O LORD, I'd stand;
Naked, for nothing can escape Thine eye:
Bare my thoughts; laid bare, my actions;
Glaring, my sins I'd wish to hide;

Naked, my heart's darkest vanities;
Revealed: anger and bitterness, within.
I'd have nowhere to hide, no place to run,
No place I could ever conceal sin.

Shame --- burning, condemning shame
Would be mine forever to wear;
But for Thy LOVE, but for Jesus Christ,
Except that my sins HE did bear;

Except HE fulfilled Thy Law completely;
Except His blood wholly cleans-ed me.
But for His ascension --- His victory o'er death
And His righteousness, forever naked I'd be.

O but with a wonderful robe, I'm covered.
I'm cleansed by Thy amazing Grace.
Gone is the shame, I so rightly deserved.
Jesus' righteousness has taken its place!

Praises to THEE, now and forever!
Praises, I stand naked no more;
I'm no more dressed in condemnation.
Praises, my sins, Jesus bore!

By the mercies of GOD,

Rejoice! GOD is Love

O lift the Name of GOD above;
And, thank HIM for His wondrous Love!
Let's lay aside all worldly thought;
And, sing His praises as we ought.

Forget all trials for a while;
To rejoice wholly in His praise.
Think on His righteousness, His power;
Think on His wisdom and His ways!

Rejoice! Rejoice, that GOD is Love!
HE is so merciful and kind.
HE's given everything we have ---
All gifts of life of yours and mine!

By the mercies of GOD,

Rest in Christ

"What am I to do?", a mortal cries
From his low and weakened state.
"How am I to become stronger?"
"How, cause my troubles to abate?"

"Rest" is the message given of GOD.
"Bring your burdens unto me and rest."
"Leave your mortal striving behind."
"Come unto me and be blessed."

"What? Must I not solve my problems?"
"How can that be?", the mortal cries.
"Surely, my works would count for something."
Yet, works of the flesh, the LORD denies.

"Come unto me; find rest for your soul",
The Holy One speaks to His own ---
HE calms their fears, renewing Hope;
By Grace, His mercies are shown.

By the mercies of GOD,

Let Us Live Praising

Praise the LORD for the assurance,
HE is with us every day.
HE protects us during night time;
HE's ever with us all the way.

Can others see that HE is with us?
Do we let our light so shine,
As to reflect His Love toward others?
Do we tell of His Grace divine?

Or, do we hide His Love in silence?
Do we keep the light we're given from view?
Do we neglect to even mention
HIS great mercies to me and you?

How wondrous a gift is GOD's favor!
O How precious is His Love ---
Immeasurable, beyond description!
So, let us live, praising GOD above.

By the mercies of GOD,

When

When will we leave all sin behind?
When will perfection come,
When in Christ's righteousness and Love,
Our spirits shall be at Home?

When shall we know trouble no more?
When will there be no grief?
When shall there be but Love and joy?
O when, eternal relief?

When will perfection come,
That blest eternal state?
When shall we be at HOME
And perfectly sing GOD's praise?

When will strife be all past?
When will we know but LOVE?
When shall we see our blessed LORD
In His full glory, above?

O when? When GOD so wills!
At HIS appointed time!
Till then, let us rejoice
In HIS LOVE for us, sublime!

Rank Weeds

O my garden! Such a mess!
Grasses and weeds taking over!
My little tiller can do but so much;
So, I weed and weed, stooped over;

I could kneel to pull the weeds.
Ouch! That would be such a pain!
Every day, more weeds spring up,
Flourishing so in sun and rain.

Some bean plants just drowned out
In earlier rains that poured and poured.
A few now bloom; and, some barely live,
After extremes of weather endured.

My tomatoes grow quite well!
At least, hornworms must think so!
I found two fat ones on my plants,
Getting fatter, as munching they'd go.

If those pests ate weeds that way,
My garden would soon be clean.
Ah, but that's not how it works.
Pests like tomatoes, corn, and beans.

My corn in near end of my garden,
Is growing well in each row.
In the middle and far end, not so well.
Rank weeds, intermingled there, grow.

Green mulching, I find, is for me!
I'm cutting between rows with mower.
I've decided, what a good method,
This year, for this gardener/sower!

Thinking on Perfection

When I consider myself, full of flaws,
Prone to sin, too centered on me,
I'm comforted to think on perfection---
That of the Holy Trinity.

I think of GOD of almighty power.
I think on His eternal LOVE.
I think of Grace, unmerited favor,
Ours, through Christ our Savior above.

I think of LOVE pure and Holy;
I think about the unspeakable cost
Jesus suffered for GOD's chosen ---
How He gave His life for the lost.

I think of GOD's WORD, true and constant;
I think, how His LOVE forever stands.
I believe our Anchor is unshakable:
I know we're safe within GOD's hands.

How I love to think on the good news:
Though I fail and stumble and fall,
The LORD GOD, perfect, never failing,
Is my Savior, my Comforter, my All-in-all!

By the mercies of GOD,
