How Big a Reason?

How big a reason must one have to praise
The Creator, Sustainer, Giver of days?
Perhaps, with the air, let us begin --
No life here without it, my friend!

How big a reason? The ground we walk upon?
Wonderful foods? Clothing and home?
How big a reason? A bountiful year?
Or, a life that holds only cheer?

Just how big a reason? Singing brooks?
Flowers ever-blooming, upon which -- to look;
Or, all sunny weather? No, we need rain.
Great storehouses? fields full of grain?

What about Light and Truth and rest?
Need we something new to attest?
What about wisdom held in the WORD?
And, the cleansing by Jesus' blood?

What about peace past understanding?
And, unto us -- Grace, undemanding?
What about Hope -- ever-abiding,
And the Comforter -- in hearts, residing?

Need the best reason? There's no greater one
Than the Love of GOD -- of FATHER and Son
And the comforting Holy Ghost.
GOD is LOVE! -- praised by Heaven's hosts!

By the mercies of God,

Hosts are Rejoicing

During present grief, O remember
That in fair Heaven's throng,
Angels, hosts, are rejoicing --
This child of GOD is Home!

HIS child, borne across the bar
That separates earth and bliss;
Another child HE treasures --
This one -- here, greatly missed!

Ah, but in a just little while,
GOD's children will all be Home,
Where are no partings to grieve,
And all rejoice in song!

May GOD comfort you, uphold you, and fill you with peace.

By the mercies of God,

Unfailing Savior

In measure of faith, man oft' wavers,
While struggling in mortal frame;
But GOD never, never! falters.
Praises to His Holy Name!

Doubts and fears may becloud you,
If you should hear Satan's lies.
O but GOD's Love so embraces --
HE enlightens hearts and eyes!

Ah, You may feel to be so small --
As having no significance at all.
Yet, dare not claim so to be;
Child, Jesus made you royalty!

Then, hush, accuser! Our hearts fill --
GOD loved His children; HE loves them still!
Cleansed and precious royalty, they
Are secure in Jesus, forever to stay!

By the mercies of God,

'Tis GOD WHO Redeems

Tell now, did the ALMIGHTY on high --
Creator of earth, its seas, the sky --
GOD over all things seen and unseen,
Call upon weakness for help to redeem

HIS fallen people? HAH! does HE now?
Does the ALMIGHTY need help, somehow?
Does HE All-Wise seek counsel of man?
Did HE trust weak ones for Salvation's plan?

Is GOD needy? A thousand times NO!
That would speak death to all here below!
Fallen creatures and impotent are we;
But for GOD and HIS Grace -- no life we'd see!

No speech would we have; nor, could we move
Or have Hope at all, but for GOD's LOVE!
So, let the world bow to whatever it will.
'Tis GOD WHO redeems! HE saves! HE heals!

By the mercies of God,

Be Lifted Up

How oft' have my shoulders stooped;
In discouragement, I've bowed head,
When I should've raised arms and face,
Heavenward, to praise GOD, instead!

How many times must I forget
That trials here are nothing strange--
That I'm not alone in tribulations!
For, Jesus' Love with us remains --

In the Comforter Who dwells within
And speaks peace to the heart!
LORD, bless me to remember THOU art
Ever with me, even at trials' start!

By the mercies of God,

My Spirit Shall be Free

This life will soon be o'er --
This mortal life, all bound in clay;
Then, shall my spirit be released
And soar to Heaven away --

Not to some land of dread,
But, Home, devoid of fear,
Where joy and peace and praise abound
In every resident there!

Then, friend, grieve not my passing;
But, patiently, in Hope, wait
Till you ascend to bliss above
In forever-perfect state!

By the mercies of God,

We Must Have LIGHT

We must have enlightenment
To see Jesus - - conq'ring Lord!
Yes, Light of GOD to comprehend
The Truth - - His Holy WORD;

Light, to see His Kingdom here;
His will for us; His LOVE;
Light to drive away darkness - -
Satan's lies, to disprove.

Light to comfort troubled hearts;
Light to drive away fear;
Light, ever-testifying
Our Almighty Friend is near!

GOD is Life and Light, the Way, the Truth,
HE's Peace and Hope - - express LOVE!
Praise to HIM WHO shines upon us,
Within, through us. Praise GOD above!

By the mercies of God,

Greatest Wonder of All

I can't wrap my mind around it;
Its greater than my thought can hold!
My heart cannot contain it all--
The wonder of LOVE of old!

The wonder that GOD incarnate --
Had come to earth to live and die.
HE condescended for us --
To redeem us to GOD on high!

Express LOVE of GOD eternal!
LOVE past comprehension of man!
Wonder at the greatest Sacrifice --
Jesus -- SON of the great I AM!

I'm Done, Ya'll!

There's computers and scooters
And dollies and dresses;
Tricycles, bicycles
For princes / princesses;

Pajamas and sweaters;
Robes and warm shawls;
Big ole fuzzy house shoes
In sizes for all;

There's puppies and kittens
Snow sleds and mittens;
There's diamonds and pearls
For cherished girls;

Watches, watches, watches galore --
Many styles at the superstore;
Pots and pans, glasses, plates;
Tablecloths, napkins -- goodness sakes!

Whew! There's art work and paint sets;
And various tools we can get;
Bats and balls; sports stuff galore
Is there need to list even more?

There's music and movies;
There's gardening stuff;
And, sweaters for doggies --
Now, that's quite enough!

We know it's all out there --
At a favorite store.
But, I tell you I'm done!
My ankles are sore!

Yes, I believer I'll sit for a spell
Till eyes and ears and feet feel well --
Sit right in a fancy chair in the mall;
Then, I'm gonna mosey along home, ya'll!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I like to poke a little fun at the shopping madness;
but, I'm truly thankful we're so richly blessed in this nation -- GOD be praised!

By the mercies of God,

A Little Gift

A memory of Christmas time past
Is coming to call once again
Of something that happened years ago
To one of our neighborhood friends.

The family lived near us on a farm;
The dad, a sharecropper there.
As we children rode the bus together,
Excitement seemed to fill the air.

Christmas time! School was let out.
From the bus, we walked toward home.
White Christmas gifts had been given --
Our friends had qualified for some.

Something seems ironic about it --
Expression of one gift I recall--
The younger friend said to us,
"Sister got a snot rag -- that's all."

Little floral handkerchiefs were pretty
And common for gifts those days.
Why does this bother me even now,
Did the words or the gift hold disgrace?

Was it akin to giving soap for hunger?
Why does it seem so? Times were lean then.
I cannot explain it - just seems to me,
A shiny apple would've pleased my friend.

Still, still this memory comes
Frequently at this time of year,
Going against the grain of my heart,
As those sad words, again, I hear.

By the mercies of God,

LORD WHO Found Me

O THOU, my great Redeemer
WHO art my Hope as well,
Praises for tender mercies
And saving me from hell!

Praises, LORD, for Thy favor;
Praises for Thy rich Grace.
Praises, dear Holy Spirit --
THOU Light for all my days!

O LORD, 'twas THEE WHO found me
In lost and ruin-ed state!
Tis THEE WHO e'er sustains me
And maketh storms abate.

By the mercies of God,

Eee Eee - Ur!

Eee Eee - Ur! Eee Eee - Ur!
I can hear his wake-up song --
That of a little Bantam fellow,
That fearlessly struts along.

Hubby's had another bright idea --
He wanted some chickens again,
Some Bantams in particular.
The rooster came from a friend --

Home from his route recently,
He'd said, "guess what's in here",
Holding a small cardboard box --
Just grinning from ear to ear.

"I've simply no idea" I replied.
He then opened the little box,
Taking out a bantam rooster
With brightly colored comb on top.

"Where will I put him?" he asked.
"We've an old bird cage" I said.
Off he went and soon came back
And made sure his rooster was fed.

All that done, he put him in sunroom
Just off the kitchen -- out back.
The grandchildren were simply thrilled.
Such glee I somehow lacked.

One night in sunroom couldn't hurt --
To that much -- yes, I agreed!
Next morning, I shuffled to kitchen,
Turned on light so I could see.

Immediately! shrilly! came a cry.
Of its source, I had no doubt.
I rushed to tell the chicken owner -
"You must put that rooster out!"

"Not in carport! not the porch!"
"Farther, farther! away from house!"
"You must make him a pen", I said;
"Back near the garden"-- I allowed.

He set bantam on the rabbit's hutch
For now, just a bit from the porch.
And, I, today, should look about
And find him shelter, of course.

Struts too little for dumplings!
He's too pretty to throw away.
Guess I'll try to compromise
And find him a place to stay.

Eee Eee! Ur!
Merry Christmas!

Because GOD is so merciful, let me be merciful.

Burden Lifter

O that sadness ne'er dominate
With weight of grievous pain!
For our LORD to lift heaviness --
In HIM, to know great gain!

Sadness brings its inward weeping;
And, heaviness so presses down!
We have great need of The Savior
To bear us past sorrows 'round --

The Savior to speak "Peace" to us;
The Savior to ease our pain;
The Savior to wipe our tears away,
That we rejoice in HIM again!

Sorrow is but a transient thing --
It must surely flee from LIGHT!
It is GOD WHO lifts heaviness --
HE makes the outcome bright.

There's grace for our trials here
Through Christ our Savior-Friend.
All praises unto the LORD
WHO blesses hearts to mend!

By the mercies of God,

Drizzle and Song

I walk outside where drizzle fell
In the night and dampened woods --
There's quite a hush of sorts about,
Except for birds in neighborhood.

They might be calling out their news
Of one kind or another --
A few notes here, an answer there --
None of which I decipher.

Gladsome notes this grayish dawn,
Songsters are lilting high in trees;
I only see flitting, alighting
Of silhouettes forms of these.

Charcoal-dark branches and leaves
Stand stark against the cloudy sky.
Such a painting today, overhead --
Beautiful to such a worm as I!

Treasured Tidings

HOLY BIBLE, KJV, Luke 2:14
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Children, have you heard those treasured tidings
Which were said of angels at Jesus' arriving --
Those proclaimed first at Bethlehem --
Sweet words, "peace on earth, good will to men"?
Rejoice, reading of the Babe revealed by star
That led wise men from places quite afar
Unto the very spot where Jesus lay
Unto GOD's only begotten Son -- that day!
And, rejoice, HE remained not a babe!
HE came not to earth, an infant -- to stay.
HE suffered pain, was reviled and scorned,
Was denied by HIS friends -- was left, forlorn!
For His own HE came -- 'twas for them, HE died --
Our precious Lord Who lived a sinless life!
And, that very life HE laid selflessly down,
GOD's children -- with HIS righteousness -- to crown!
Sing, children! Exult in those tidings' of Truth!
Jesus is Righteousness for me and you!
The Holy Child grew in stature and in knowledge --
HE is King of kings; to HIM, give homage!
O for the blest tidings, rejoice again --
GOD's Only Begotten redeemed chosen man!
Jesus did for us what we could never do --
HE perfectly saved us! HE's forever true!
By the mercies of God,
The Constant ONE
We're up and down -- and down and up;
But, GOD is constant and ever near.
HE's more than able to deliver us,
from pain and suffering, trial and fear.
We aim and struggle and often fail;
HE speaks and His will is done.
O how wondrous is this FRIEND --
The Almighty and merciful ONE!
May HE help us to better focus,
blessing our hearts to rest in HIM.
HE's the Way of Light and Salvation --
The ONE WHO does -- o'er all ills -- win!
My Need of Christ
Needing peace and strength this hour,
LORD, in Jesus' Name I come --
Needing drink of Eternal Spring.
Have mercy, O Eternal ONE!
In need of manna for my spirit;
In need of guidance by Thy Hand;
In need again to be delivered
To see past trials of this land --
LORD, I want, I need, I cry --
Today, in spirit. Please supply!
Please wash both my heart and mind;
Guard my thoughts; shield my eyes.
Bathe me in Christ's righteousness;
Till but Grace of HIM I confess!
Holy Spirit, please instill
Godly desires to conquer my will.
Fill with Thyself, my heart's void.
Bless me, things of faith -- to employ.
Send upon me mercy showers --
Be comfort to me, all my hours.
By the mercies of God,
Joyful Tidings
HOLY BIBLE, KJV --
Luke 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. [The following might be sung to tune of Joyful, Joyful, We Adore THEE]
Joyful, joyful, joyful tidings --
Peace on earth, good will t'ward men!
Tidings of our Savior born
So long ago in Bethlehem!
Joyful, joyful -- can you hear it?
Still, the sweet glad tidings ring.
Jesus -- conquering Lord and Savior,
Peace and Hope and joy, did bring!
Glorious tidings -- what a blessing!
Join; rejoice that Name to tell --
Of Redeemer of GOD's people--
Christ the Lord Emanuel!
